Fake payment received: "Payment of Rs 8,500 sent on GPay. Server delay. Dispatch now, balance will update in 10 minutes." This is not proof unless your own app or bank statement shows credit.

Fake account warning: "Google Pay account will be blocked. Complete KYC at this link." Real checks should be handled inside the official app or verified website, not through a random message link.

Fake refund release: "Approve request to receive refund." A collect request is not a credit. If you approve it and enter UPI PIN, money may leave your account.

Fake support call: "I am from GPay support. Share OTP or install screen share app." Do not share OTP, UPI PIN, passwords, card details, or screen access.

  • For sellers: do not dispatch goods, release service, refund excess amount, or hand over delivery until credit appears in your own account.
  • For refunds: receiving money should not require QR scanning, UPI PIN, collect approval, remote access, OTP, or a new support APK.
  • For suspicious warnings: open the Google Pay app manually. Do not use a support number, link, or QR shared in the alert message.

How to verify safely inside Google Pay

  1. Open Google Pay yourself

    Do not tap the alert link. Open the app from your phone and use transaction history, profile, help, and support routes inside the app.

  2. Match transaction details

    Check amount, sender or receiver name, UPI ID, bank account, date, time, status, and transaction ID or UTR.

  3. Check linked bank statement

    If a payment supposedly arrived, confirm the bank credit. If the app says pending, do not act like money is final.

  4. Inspect the direction of money

    If the next step asks for UPI PIN, you are approving a payment. Stop if the other person claims that PIN is needed to receive money.

  5. Use official help only

    Use Google Pay Help or the app's Help and Support area. Avoid numbers from search ads, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, or screenshots.

UPI PIN is like an ATM PIN for authorizing payments. A scammer may say the PIN is needed for refund release, payment verification, account unblock, buyer payment, courier confirmation, or prize collection. That story is unsafe.

Also stop if a caller asks you to install AnyDesk, screen share, an APK, a browser extension, or a "support app." If they can see your screen while you type a PIN or OTP, your account is at risk.

    For recent financial cyber fraud in India, speed matters. Keep amount, time, transaction ID, UPI ID, and bank details ready.

  3. File on cybercrime.gov.in

    Create the formal complaint trail and attach screenshots, transaction proof, contact details, and timeline.

  4. Escalate when needed

    Use NPCI UPI complaint and RBI CMS if the bank or payment-provider complaint needs formal escalation.

  5. Secure the device

    Remove suspicious apps, revoke screen-share permissions, change passwords from a clean device, and check unknown sessions.
